The Republic of Cuba is formed by a 70 000 square miles archipelago, 65 000 of them belong to the main island of Cuba, 1375 square miles to the Island of Youth and 2625 square miles to different Cays and tiny islands.
Located between the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, Cuba has a privileged location; its shores are covered by turquoise waters and 3560 miles of white sands beaches, 4195 tiny Islands and Cays, making of Cuba an incredible puzzle of landscapes and pristine locations.
Cuba has semitropical climate with a yearly average temperature of 77° F and 80 per cent humidity especially during the sunrise. The humidity is lower at the central zone of the island. For all of this Cuba has an exuberant vegetation, the most perfect example is the famous “Butterfly flower” which is the representative flower of Cuba. Also Cuba has fine woods like Cedar and Mahogany. Tropical fauna as amphibians, alligators and reptiles are easy to find as well as the largest pink flamingos colony on the planet.
Cuban population is 11 million inhabitants with Spanish as the official language; their currency is the Cuban Peso (CUP) and also the Cuban convertible Peso (CUC) which is the currency that is used by foreigners for which they exchange their currency upon arrival. The capital is the city of “La Habana” with around 2.2 millions inhabitants, the type of government is a Socialist Popular Democratic Republic.
Cuban main agriculture productions are sugar cane, coffee, rice and tobacco; their main typical dishes are grilled pork, fish and rice. The traditional drinks are “daiquiri” and the famous “mojito” prepared with the well known sugar cane rum.
Their most prominent handcrafts are made of leather, vegetal fibers, carved wood, stone and metal. Cuba has a rich in culture and is the only country in Latin America with a cero percent index of analphabets and the lowest index in infant mortality Sports is at everybody’s reach and health services are completely free for everyone.
Tourism is an activity basically new in Cuba. Before 1990 it was an industry that focused primarily on nationals, after this date they changed the development direction of this activity, to be able to achieve their goals, the ministry of tourism has a warm spirit population to commercialize their product as well as their natural beauties and the already known Cuban smile.
